# Fundraising in Transition: AI, Changing Donors and What Comes Next

### An informal conversation with Helen Hays and Paul Relf from UNICEF UK about how the fundraising environment is changing, how AI is being used in practice today, and what AI-enabled fundraising systems could look like next.

##### Thursday 22nd October | 11am | 45 minutes | Online

###### Hosted by Robson & Mitchell

High-value fundraising is changing from two directions at once. Donors are becoming harder to identify and reach, with DAFs, intermediaries, family offices and advisers playing a greater role in how relationships are accessed. At the same time, AI is beginning to change how fundraising teams research prospects, interpret information, manage data and understand relationships.

This session will look beyond the hype to explore what is actually happening now, what is working in practice, where the limitations remain, and what charities should be preparing for next.

### What we'll explore

**The Changing Donor Landscape:** How major donors are becoming harder to see and reach, and what the growth of DAFs, wealth advisers, family offices and intermediaries means for prospect research and major donor acquisition.

**AI in fundraising today:** How UNICEF UK is using AI in practice, including prospect research, screening, summarisation, Companies House analysis, horizon scanning and repeatable research activity

**What comes next:** What happens when AI becomes embedded inside fundraising systems rather than operating as a separate tool, and what organisations need to get right around data, workflows, governance and ownership before that can work effectively

### Who should attend:

This session is designed for: major gift and philanthropy fundraisers, prospect researchers, Directors and Heads of Fundraising, fundraising operations and CRM leaders, charity leaders considering AI adoption, anyone interested in the changing high-value fundraising environment

# Helen Hays, Head of Partnership Research & Assurance, UNICEF UK

Helen leads work supporting effective prospect research, insight and assurance across fundraising partnerships.

She joined UNICEF UK in 2025 from The King’s Trust, where she led the prospect research function for nearly ten years. Her previous experience includes roles at the National Gallery, the V&A, British Heart Foundation and Anthony Nolan.

A former Chair of Researchers in Fundraising, Helen is passionate about making prospect research more strategic, efficient and influential within fundraising. She is particularly interested in how AI and digital tools can strengthen research, decision-making and the way fundraising teams work.

Helen will share her perspective on the changing philanthropy landscape and how AI is currently being used in fundraising and prospect research at UNICEF UK.

### Paul Relf, Salesforce Business Analyst, UNICEF UK

Paul has more than 20 years’ experience in fundraising, supporter care and income processing across organisations including UNICEF UK, The King’s Trust, British Heart Foundation, Christian Aid and Alzheimer’s Society.

Paul brings a practical understanding of the pressures teams face in balancing supporter experience, compliance, staff wellbeing and income delivery.

His work now focuses on designing Salesforce systems and processes that make fundraising simpler and more effective. He is particularly interested in practical, user-centred technology and how AI-enabled tools can improve supporter experience, reduce operational burden and help fundraising teams work more efficiently.

Paul will explore what the next generation of AI-enabled fundraising systems could look like, including UNICEF UK’s work around Salesforce and Agentforce.

![Sarah](https://www.robsonandmitchell.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Sarah.png?width=284&height=286&name=Sarah.png)

### Sarah Robson, Founder, Robson & Mitchell

Sarah is Founder of Robson & Mitchell, a specialist High-Value Income Advisory supporting charities and purpose-led organisations to strengthen, stabilise and grow major donor, trust and partnership income.

With more than 15 years’ experience in high-value fundraising and organisational leadership across organisations including Duke of Edinburgh International Award Foundation, The Kings Trust and Save the Children, her work focuses on the systems, behaviours and leadership conditions that underpin sustainable income performance.

Sarah will host the conversation, drawing out practical insights to help fundraising leaders understand where AI can strengthen decision-making, improve systems and support stronger high-value income performance.

# Three questions we’ll come back to

### Where can AI genuinely remove friction?

### Where does human judgement remain essential?

### Are fundraising systems ready for what comes next?

One of the central themes of the discussion is that AI adoption is not simply a technology question. It touches data, workflow, skills, governance, leadership and fundraising performance.
